The bankers from Slovenia have been participating in the Eurobanking Conference since 1989. Eurobanking was set up in 1975 and has since then provided a forum at which European bankers may exchange their ideas and professional skills. The this year's 40th Eurobanking Conference taking place at Hotel Radin in Radenci between 20 and 23 May will be hosted by the OTP banka Group.
As in previous years, the main purpose of this year's conference will be to provide an opportunity for European bankers to exchange and discuss good practice and ideas. In view of the current financial situation, a special attention will be devoted to risks to which the banks are exposed and to various techniques for managing these risks. Managing operational risk, interest rate risk and the risk of default will be at the centre of this year's event.
Following the opening address by Aleš Hauc, the President of OTP banka's Management Board, twenty-four speakers from seven countries will share their expertise with other Conference participants. Slovene bankers will participate in the Eurobanking Conference for the 21st time already. Among the speakers, there will be four experts from Slovenia, who will hold their presentations on 21 May. Egon Zagrajšek, a Slovene financial expert working at the Federal Reserve System, USA, will discuss interest rate risk and bank equity valuations. Mejra Festič, the Vice-Governor of the Bank of Slovenia, will speak about the position of foreign banks in five EU member countries, Iztok Valenčič from OTP banka will discuss the importance of predicting potential crisis in the area of data processing, and Mojca Nekrep from Zavarovalnica Maribor will give a presentation on the development of contemporary life insurance products. Apart from Slovene speakers, the organisers of the Conference highlight, in particular, the presentation which will be given by Wolfgang Schmidt, a professor at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management and the author of many textbooks on risk management.
»Each year, about 50 financial experts from across Europe attend the Eurobanking Conference. Last year, participants from 14 European countries attended the Conference«, said about his expectations Mladen Stariha, a long-standing national coordinator of the Eurobanking Conference. He added: »The Conference always discusses the latest financial developments in different local environments. The majority of speakers come from Germany, France and the Netherlands. They present analytically the recent banking trends in their environment.«
