Under the honorary patronage of Mr. Donald Tusk, the President of the Government of the Republic of Poland, the first two-day Central and Eastern Europe IPO Summit started yesterday in Warsaw. The aim of the conference, taking place on 25 and 26 May, is to bring together potential issuers of equities from Central and Eastern Europe and potential investors. Mr. Matjaž Kovačič, the President of the Management Board of OTP banka, participated in this summit as well.
Mr. Kovačič took part in the round table discussions concerning the speed of accumulating capital, the development of local financial markets, and the impact of global crisis on the economy and the financing of economic development in countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Besides, he shared the experience related to the OTP banka's capital rising and listing on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
On the first day of the conference, the President of the OTP banka's Management Board met with high representatives of the Polish financial sector, among whom were Mr. Krzysztof Walenczak, the Deputy Minister of Treasury of the Republic of Poland, and Mr. Ludwik Sobolewski, the President of the Management Board of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, as well as with some other guests participating in the event. He also met with the Polish President, Mr. Bronislaw Komorowski.
Mr. Matjaž Kovačič pointed out that »in spite of complicated legal and bureaucratic procedures, I can only speak of positive experience of the Bank with the Warsaw Stock Exchange in the capital increase process and issue of new shares. The listing of OTP banka shares on the Warsaw Stock Exchange represents a significant milestone not only for our Bank, but for the Slovene financial system as a whole. I believe that our good experience with the WSE, as well as the information received from other listed companies, will encourage and motivate also other companies that seek fresh capital in the international market.«
